The first thing I hope was clarified was the actual use of the post prior to and during World War II.

I hope everyone who reads this gets an idea of what life was like on the post as a dependent. I did, however, attempt to avoid personalizing this history. I believe that if I had personalized the history, it would be unfair as it only shows one person’s version. I did have to draw on my experience for most of the activities' section as well as the physical plant section.

Although my stay on the post was a short period of its history, I will always love and cherish what the post was to me.

It is interesting that Camp King is again a sign of German prosperity. That the post no longer needs to exist, militarily, is a sign of peace. Once the Cold War ended, there was no longer a need for the large American presence in Germany. However, the people of Oberursel remembering the American presence shows that a great friendship was established. I hope that the new families that move to the post love and cherish it as much as I do. I hope their children’s childhood and teenage memories are even better that mine, and that’s not easy.

I have heard from many people that the military life is no place for a family. I strongly disagree. The advantages and experiences that we had were some of the best of our lifetimes and will always be remembered. The opportunity to explore a different country and culture is something most adults only dare to dream of. We were able to accomplish this before starting our adult lives.

I deeply miss Germany, the Post, Oberursel and Steinbach. I thank the German people for enriching my life by letting me experience theirs.

I understand that I am not a literary genius and that my writing style leaves a lot to be desired. I hope that the format and style has not been too much of a hindrance to the information that I am attempting to convey.
